Prasanna has a string of qualifications before joining the fraternity of mental health professionals. Besides having a Diploma in Public Relations, she has a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside in 1996. She also completed a course on ˇ°Community Care for People Affected by HIV/AIDSˇ± conducted by South Bank University, London in 1997. Her interest to upgrade her skills in Counselling led her to take the Executive Diploma in Counselling from the University of Malaya in 2006 and her Master of Counselling from Help University in 2009. She got her license to practice from the Malaysian Counsellor Board in May 2010.
Before venturing into counselling, Prasanna worked in Human Resource Management in a multinational manufacturing organisation based in Malaysia. Her exposure to the different issues with the employees triggered her interest to further enhance her skills in social work and counselling, making her an effective employee assistance consultant.
A member of the Malaysian Association for Social Workers, Prasanna was the Manager of Community Care & Support, Malaysian Aids Council for seven years. Her work here entailed providing counselling to people with drug issues and those affected by HIV/AIDS and support to family members.
During this time, Prasanna participated in numerous domestic and international conferences and workshops; mostly related to HIV/AIDS. With her knowledge and experience, it is no wonder that she was involved in the preparation of the ˇ°Counselling for HIV/AIDS Training Moduleˇ± by Ministry of Health.
Prasanna was the mental health therapist with Medecins Sans Fronteiers (Doctors Without Borders); in support of displaced persons in different locations in Malaysia.
A giving and caring person, Prasanna also devotes part of her leisure time to different community work. She is a member of Sri Ramakrishnan Mission, Community Services Network and the Guru Dharma Society.
